Ionian Inspires the Return…
to where it all began.
Wednesday 10th November 2010, at 19:30, Marylebone Cricket Club Museum, Lord’s Cricket Ground, London.

In the footsteps of Odysseus.

In the spirit of goodwill and modesty many acknowledge the wonderful influence Ancient Greece has had on modern civilization. It is with this in mind and in collaboration with the Hellenic Cricket Federation we are inviting school groups from all over the world to be introduced to the Greek way of living, the Mediterranean diet, Greek Easter, the natural beauty of the Ionian, the Cultural wealth of Corfu and at the same time to play cricket.

We are inviting young people to come to Corfu – known as an Island at the crossroads of cultures – to show us their way of living, their sports and games, their cultural identities in celebration of Cultural Diversity and humanity.

The International Cricket School Tournament will take place in Corfu from 25th – 30th April 2011. The groups can visit Corfu from 18th April in order to participate in the unique celebrations and events of Easter.

The programme of events includes:

  • A 20-20 tournament (4 teams in each preliminary group)
  • Exhibition games and coaching sessions. (Participating schools are invited to share their other sporting traditions during their stay in Corfu.
  • A major Arts programme including Music, Dance and Theatre performances and workshops

It has been well observed that a connection of a person to his source, to their home and their roots gives them rest, heals their wounds, offers them rebirth and connects them back to the ideals they were raised with. The return to the base is the beginning of a new era in their life. Greece is the source of Athleticism, Culture, Philosophy and Politics.

The Ionian inspires this journey back to the Universal Home following Odysseus steps. The return to Home, Odysseus’s Kingdom is the return to life’s principles, to politics, to culture. The Ionian inspires the return to our ideals, stimulating our children to get to understand themselves better.

We hope to see you in Corfu in April 2011.

We are all Greeks

Our laws, our literature, our religion, our arts, have their roots in Greece

Percy Bysshe Shelley, English poet, (1792 - 1822)
